Turkey, with its central geographical location, has always been a gateway between East and West. Home to many civilizations in its 10,000-year history, the country offers a unique blend of cultures and history, alongside breathtaking natural beauties, unique archeological sites and some of the finest beaches around the Mediterranean. Little wonder then that the country became the sixth most popular tourist destination in the world in 2013, welcoming 35 million foreign visitors.
Arrivals from the Middle East have jumped in the last 12 months. Iraq proved the biggest inbound market, with 55,000 visitors, up 33 percent on 2012 figures. Meanwhile, the UAE accounted for more than 7, 000 arrivals, while visitors from Lebanon totaled with 16,000 extra rooms set to come online by 2017.
In 2013, Wyndham Hotel Group opened its TRYP by Wyndham brand in Taskim, as well as the 306-room Wyndham Istanbul Petek. Meanwhile 2014 will see 16 new resorts open in Antalya, bringing 6,000 new rooms to the market. This follows the opening of a new airport at Antalya.
